Dry Soil Core Sampling (undisturbed soil samples)
To obtain soil cores by hand-operated equipment it needs to be done in
increments so that soil friction is reduced.
We have 3 types:
- The standard type uses a thin-walled tube that is driven into the soil and these are often called U-tubes but we call them Push-Tubes.
- Another type is a Split-Tube which is a thicker tube cut in half lengthwise with two threaded ends for the screw-on end pieces that hold it together.
- The third type is a Core-Tube which is thicker again and houses an inner removable sample tube made from stainless steel or clear hard plastic.
Stones or gravel can be a problem for all these.
